Croatian Operated Restaurants in Early Los Angeles

A project to trace the ownership, employees and locations of Croatian-operated restaurants in early Los Angeles.

Welcome. This is very much a work in progress. I had no experience at complicated websites and local history when I started this. Now I have much of the basic information compliled and entered and am trying to figure out what the next steps are.

Currently this is a compilation of the data is being used to draw a map illustrating the location of the people, their restaurants and residences. If you have any questions, comments or suggestions, go to the Contact page and email me. I'll be happy to add information to this site.

Edit and deletions of the data is possible, but won't be saved for the long term. Each time the site is updated your changes will go away. If you have contributions please email me. If there is a demand I can change things so your changes will be saved.

The navigation links at the top of the page will take you to the information. Connections is the page where the people are connected to the address of the restaurants or residences.

General sources and methodology of data gathering is discussed on the About page. References are generally included in the details of each item under Source.

Trivia

According to a now dead site, 0.06 percent of Los Angeles claims Yugoslavian descent, and Croatia is only a part of former Yugoslavia. That's maybe 2500 people. With so much intermarriage, the number is probably larger. If my name weren't Croatian, I might not think to claim it either and I'm only about 3/16 Croatian.
